Coaching Instinct

Making more great leaders. That is the responsibility of every great leader.

But, if you’re interested in cementing your legacy, you’ll make those leaders even better than you.

I’ll quickly see, and leverage who you are at your best to improve you, while helping you learn (and actually come to be grateful for), who you are at your worst.

The way I work is built on really seeing your strengths: as a leader, a listener, and team-builder. We'll quickly address behaviors that both serve and don't serve you. As a licensed psychological clinician, a veteran creative and executive in advertising, marketing, and branding, a student of effective and ineffective leadership, and an experienced Executive Coach working all around the Fortune 500 (and a number of highly successful startups), identifying your superpower (and leveraging it) and your kryptonite (and allowing it to teach you) is what we’ll do right out of the gate.  Though you will never be judged, you will absolutely be challenged. The goal is to empower the way you go about things, and it's done with both unflinching honesty, relentless support, and timely humor. I am not interested in provoking defensiveness, shame, anger, paralysis, or sadness. But if that's what it takes to get you into and out of the darkness, so be it, I’ve got a torch - and, pain is a useful teacher, though it does of course suck. Whatever has to happen, you’ll come away a much smarter leader, and a vastly better human to all the people who are ready for you to be just that.

Okay, why?

So you can work, live, connect, and succeed much more efficiently and effectively. Learning and laughing.

i believe the leader in you is also the corporate athlete in you

I studied and did applied research in how and when we second guess ourselves. By learning about what depletes and elevates our confidence, along with what gives us robs us of energy, I pioneered a method to coach, guide, and counsel clients to access and trust who they are when they Slow The F*ck Down (STFD) and quiet the negative self-talk. Step by step, we start connecting authenticity to one purposeful life experience after another. I do this many ways, though I'm often sought out for using physical activity and powerful conversation to provide poignant insights. It is this pursuit - and sense of fulfillment - that increases perspective and qualitatively alters trajectories. Whether you are an athlete, and even better if you believe you’re not, my experience is that you absolutely have physical + instinctive gifts, and together, we'll venture into a variety of environments that will reveal how you prevail, how you learn from mistakes, how you compete, who you are when present, and the techniques you use to execute when you're brimming with quiet, knowing confidence. From there, what we learn will be applied to other areas of your life. To boil it down: this work allows us to leverage your assets and grow from your deficits, whether we're talking about doing the job in your life or doing the job of your life.

Testimonials

Sam is thoughtful and funny, which made the leap easier because he’s unlike other coaches. He’s unconventional and courageous in his approach, fully invested in my success as a human, not just a leader.

Sam is gifted in not just how quickly he connects the dots to identify your development areas, but also in how effectively he delivers the harsh truth. I now have a better understanding of my blind spots and a clear roadmap for building a better version of me.

When I unexpectedly encountered trying times in my personal life, Sam responded by going above and beyond, checking in on me and offering counsel. He makes everyone he comes into contact with better for having him in their lives.
— Kanika Soni, CEO, Chownow
Sam’s coaching was instrumental in helping me develop the leadership and management skills necessary to succeed in today’s workplace. From the outset of our work together, we were able to zero-in on key areas for development and he offered creative and innovative solutions to address them.
— Abdul Ismaila, Chief Financial Officer, Squire
Sam’s coaching and mentorship profoundly impacted my ability to build and lead successful teams. His detailed process for learning my strengths and weaknesses allowed him to create a framework for leadership and building connection that I’ll apply for the rest of my life - professionally and personally.
— Matthew Braley, Enterprise Saas Executive + advisor
Working with Sam was a career and life changing experience that has driven material impact on my approach and influence as a leader. Sam deeply understands the intricacies of leadership, organizational dynamics, and how to uniquely unlock human potential.
— Andrea Hopelain, GM I SVP Marketing & Commerical EA Sports
It’s the questions. The ones that stopped me. The ones that slowed me down. The ones that reminded me of Sam’s ability to have me rethink things in more meaningful and connected ways. It’s also the way he identifies things. Working with Sam hasn’t just been of great value to me, it’s had a qualitative influence on those I lead.
— Jessica Neal, Venture Partner/Investor - Former Netflix CHRO
Sam’s work with our leadership team was a transformative, life changing experience. He was able to help us find connection through conflict, to create meaning in how we lead - and follow - and to challenge us to be the best versions of ourselves.

Perspective

How you see yourself and your imprint is vitally important. Because those two things aren't often aligned. You may intend for people to understand your well-meaning motives, yet the impact you've left is experienced far differently. Our work together aligns your intentions with your impact.

Why move?

There is plenty of evidence that supports gaining insight with moving the body. My approach builds on this work to use what we learn through movement (be it physical or mental) to inform us quickly and viscerally so that wisdom can be captured, dissected, and replaced with intention to take you the place you’re supposed to be.

Because there’s an athlete in you

This athlete is directly connected to your instinct. By trusting what physical activity can unveil, you see that role your brain plays is different than the role your heart and your gut plays. How you think, feel, and act intentionally is all we're aiming for here. When slow down to allow your head, heart, and gut to inform you, you're on your way to seeing, hearing, and feeling leadership from an entirely different perspective.
